Crocs, say it ain't so!

This segment on the CBS Evening News tonight has shaken me to the core. It seems that I may have bought my last pair of my beloved Crocs. The company lost over $185 million last year, and they only have until September to pay back the losses. Financial analysts are predicting that they're not going to make it.

I know, I know...most people hate Crocs. A Google search for "I hate Crocs" returned 258,000 hits, including a blog devoted entirely to loathing the colorful foam footwear. But, you know what? I don't care what people think! I wear Crocs and I am not ashamed to admit it.

My first encounter with Crocs was about four years ago, when I was having a lot of pain from an old ankle injury. I did a Google search for "therapeutic shoes" or somesuch, and the Crocs website was one of the hits. I read several reviews, tried on a pair, and I was sold. (The fact that they come in all kinds of gaudy wild colors was just a bonus.) Sure, they're ugly--there's no denying it. I would never wear them in a situation that called for more formal footwear. But, they are also comfortable. I torture my feet in heels at least four days a week, and on the weekends my little piddies demand a rest. Walking in Crocs, even all day, is heavenly. They're great for gardening, too; you can get them filthy, muddy, and wet, run them under the hose, and they're good as new. I have four pairs (including the fleece-lined ones for winter), and I will be sad to see them go.

On the bright side, though, if the company needs to make a lot of cash fast, maybe they'll have a sale! Shopping always makes me feel better.

I saw the news and was disappointed too. I just discovered crocs. Well, technically a good knock-off, but I like them so much I want to get the real thing.

I hope they don't go the way of the Earth Shoe. I used to love those too.

Hey! My Mommie has the exact same pink Croc Mary Janes! And also a couple pairs of the clogs in bright green and purple. I think it is okay that they are not fashionable, because they are so comfy.

Lola: I have some of the knock-off ones for yard work, and the real ones are even more comfortable. I hope you can get your hands (feet?) on a pair before they're gone!

Daisy: I would have to say that your Mommie has excellent taste in footwear. :) And, since you're such a fashionable cat, you know that everyone has to take a break from being stylish sometimes.

My coworker was just talking to our boss about the demise of crocs. They both wear them and they are so sad. I never have because of the crazy colors and style. Hmmm, maybe better late than never?

I fought Crocs for YEARS and YEARS as all my friends bought them for their children and themselves. They're Ugly, I said. They're expensive,I said.

Well, our family of 3 now owns 18 pairs or Crocs combined...no kidding. I am totally sold on Crocs and am SO sad if they go away.

My black mary jane crocs are my fave!!!!!

What are you worried about? You have several pairs, and given the material they're made of, don't they have a half-life of like 1000 years? ;b

Aw, you said "piddies"!

I've never tried on a pair of crocs, but I've heard they're super comfortable. And I am all about the comfortable when it comes to shoes. Comfy, gaudy colors, funny name -- what more do you need?!

After fighting the temptation for a while, I finally own a pair of Crocs (bought by my fiance for me). I gotta say, they are COMFORTABLE! But I never wear them out of the house. It'd be too humiliating.

Kathy: You do need to be prepared to take a certain amount of ribbing if you decide to wear them. Even my husband makes fun of the bright pink ones, but I don't care.

C.B. Jones: When you wear them, or when others do? Crocs are supposed to be treated with something to keep them from getting smelly.

Happy Campers: I fought them too, because I'm kind of into clothes and usually like to be stylish. But I decided it was okay to take a break from that sometimes.

Jeff: That's almost exactly what my husband said. I'm hoping to pick up another couple pairs--that should last me until at least 2020 or so. :)

JD: They really do feel great on the feet. I try to make it look like a funky, do-my-own-thing kind of style. Piddies!

Chris: My husband (who is also Chris) did the same thing! He wears his for yard work, but would never wear them anywhere else, even though he likes them very much.
